Thanks for your response Kultex. I will persevere with 5 but the 28 does not use the neomagic. My cf-27 does have the neomagic gpu but this cf-28 has an intel graphic chip, I cant recall what exactly offhand. However i will play around and see if I can get 5 running. So far its running 4 really well considering its moest cpu and ram but I stll have the issue with menu entries for Libre office being missing (please help see my other post)

Hi,

You are probably using SliTaz 4.0. Midori version is too old.
Try SliTaz rolling.

Then run tazx and select the Intel driver.....

First I'm new to linux and Slitaz,

Everything is done in VMware

I'm able to boot straight with the ISO as a live CD but after with the "tazpanel" I proceed to the installation of Slitaz, mainly do the partitions with Gparted and after the installation proceed and finish fine with the message I need to boot (of course).

When I boot everything seem fine but instead of bringing me to the "windows" interface it goes to the "terminal" interface with:

Slitaz "Welcome to your box." "Slitaz login:"

SO I'm stuck there :(

I've browsed and googled to try to have a hint of what happen but I can't find why it's happening.

The VM is fine since I've allocated 1Gig ram to be sure it will have enough memory.

Here's the boot.log maybe it will help you to help me:

If it was the video drivers that were the problem it would not boot in the "Live CD" mode and the problem happen only after I install Slitaz from the Tazpanel.

If you need more information just ask !

Help ! ;-)

Hum I'm new too to Slitaz but I can say my USB keyboard load fine without any special drivers.

To have an hint about why it is stuck when booting look for the file "boot.log" in the \var\log\boot.log

It should show you what happen in the boot sequence.

N.B.: It will work only if it is a "fixed" installation of Slitaz since in a live version you will not be able to access the "boot.log" file.

Maybe somebody more experienced will be able to help you more. :)

Regards.

Thanks Ceel for your reply.
I'm using Slitaz 5.0-rc3.
I have been trying to get the internet working for a couple of days now but no succes.
The funny thing is with the TazWeb Browser I can get to google, some times I can get to
a website from there, but most of the time I get the message TLS handshake failed.
I think some setting is wrong.

Use the lastest rolling iso - i remember, something, that Aleksej changed something in ssl

If it does not help, use opera or Firefox ....

I'm having to do a network boot as this machine only has a floppy. When I try to boot 5 it just hangs after a while. I don't have the knowledge to troubleshoot this. I'd be happy with 4 if I could just get LibreOffice working. I have installed LO 3. From a tazpkg I used on slitaz 3 and that's gone on fine and created menu entries fine. However a newer version would be good if only I could get the menu entries or desktop shortcuts.

Hi terrybull
I run 4.0 with LibreOffice 5.3 and it works prefect.

Steps
1) check the PATH launcher files. Open Sakura:
cd /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/xdg
ls

base.desktop
calc.desktop
draw.desktop
impress.desktop
math.desktop
qstart.desktop
startcenter.desktop
writer.desktop
xsltfilter.desktop

2) as root
# cd /usr/share/applications
# ls -la libreoffice-*

[attachment=44677,2493]

3) Solve symbolic link. First delete link
# rm libreoffice-writer.desktop

Create new symbolic link
# ln -s /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/xdg/writer.desktop libreoffice-writer.desktop

Check your menu!

I have just tried again to boot Slitaz 5 network boot from the boot floppy. It eventually hangs with this message

I cannot and I have not reason to install Slitaz to my computer,
because it does not boot
installer in X windows mode.

I tested Slitaz Live with my old laptop. It seems OK.
Slitaz boots then to live mode, and I get Midori and other cool stuff.

But again with desktop computer HP p6769Sc slitaz boots only to "base" and "core"
command line only.

There is Finnish PC105 USB keyboard connected to computer.

Boot stucks to text "Loading console keymap: us"

Then goes total freeze: must take power wire off to restart
computer again. Computer does not react even power switch.

I think again, tthis problem has something to do with USB
keyboard.

X windows boot sequence must be differennt than text mode boot!

Thanks for the advice, but I think I found the problem.
I made a new livestick by using RUFUS, now it works fine.
Maybe some file was damaged.

I don't have Windows on the drive at all. I have been using plop boot floppy but it is a bit hit and miss as to what OS it will boot from a USB drive. For example it will boot Vector Linux created with unetbootin but it will not boot slitaz again created with unetbootin.

you have installed slitaz 4.0?

so you just adopt your grub to the frugal booting as descibed before
